Udupi, Aug 31: The ‘Sanskrithi Sampada’ museum was inaugurated at St Mary’s English Medium School, Kannarpady, Udupi on August 31. The museum, featuring art, craft, and traditional Tulunadu equipment, was formally opened by renowned folk artist Bannaje Babu Amin and Poornima, assistant director of the department of Kannada and culture, Udupi district.
In her speech, Poornima remarked, “I had thought that only education was emphasised in convent schools, but seeing students in traditional outfits was a pleasant surprise. The traditional equipment in the museum brought back old memories. While modern advancements are important, we must not forget our traditions.”
Bannaje Babu Amin highlighted the Christian community's significant role in education, stating, “The Christian community has played a major role in starting educational institutions. It is commendable that many non-Christian students are pursuing education in convent schools. The museum will benefit students, including those pursuing PhDs.”
Fr Charles Menezes, correspondent of St Mary’s educational institution, said, “Every item in the museum holds memories. Students can use this for their internal assessments and PhD research. The Christian community has always contributed to education, but the government focuses more on opening new schools than supporting existing ones.”
Fr Vijay J D’Souza, principal, expressed gratitude to all who contributed to the museum's establishment. He noted, “St Mary’s English Medium School is a temple of learning. The museum was a dream filled with hope and uncertainty. The enthusiasm and support from the correspondent were instrumental in bringing this project to fruition.”
The event also included the felicitation of Poornima, Bannanje Babu Amin and Jagadish, art teacher of school.
Prizes were distributed to contributors who supported the museum’s development.
Fr Vijay J D’Souza welcomed the gathering, while faculty members Vinay Suvarna and Geetha were the masters of the ceremony and they also proposed the vote of thanks.
Vice-president parish pastoral committee Maxim D’Souza, vice-principal Rita Quadros, teaching and non-teaching staff and students were present on the occasion.
