Mangalore, Jun 1:
Even though there are public outbursts at the hike in price of petroleum products, it has hardly affected the increase in number of new vehicles being registered and coming on roads ever year.

People seem to be opting for a comfortable journey as there is an increase in the number of motor cars by 30 percent. While 5,368 motorcars were registered in 2011, this figure mounted to 6,979 this year at the RTO, Mangalore. As against 16,546 motorcycles newly registered in 2011, the figure rose to 20,506 this year, thus leading to a 24 percent hike in the number. Likewise, auto rickshaws increased by 42 percent this year with 874 auto rickshaws registered in 2011 and 1,245 this year.

In the case of stage carriage vehicles, 137 were registered in 2011, and this number rose to 140 this year showing a 2 percent increase. Goods vehicles increased at the rate of 7 percent as 1,372 vehicles were registered in 2011 and in 2012 there were 1,480 such vehicles registered. New registration of motor cabs increased by 19 percent with 164 motor cabs registered in 2011 and 196 motor cabs registered this year. However, in the case of maxi cabs, there is a decrease of 8 percentage as from 190 maxi cabs being registered last year, the number came down to 174 this year.

The rise in the auto sales in DK district is a matter of concern for many reasons. The enormity of the above projection can be gauged by the fact that motor car sales increased by 30 percent. Motor cars, as a known factor, have more thrust for fuel compared to motor cycles. Also, the problem of parking lots in the city is a major concern as year by year the situation is getting worse. People have alrheady started to feel the severity of the traffic problems in the city like those prevailing in Bangalore.

Unlike before, even college going students are found using cars for comfort and style. Even though many raised concerns over one person traveling in a car thereby causing more traffic density, no youngster seems to be worried as parents do not have any issue with their children spending their money. It is an irony that while auto loans are easily offered by many private banks, one has to struggle to obtain an education loan.

Speaking to Daijiworld, RTO C Mallikarjuna said that the city has well connected public transport and that people should use it. "Environment pollution is a major concern with the increase in the number of vehicles," he added.

Those who have concern for the environmental problems caused by using motor vehicles will surely make use of public transport.

Inflation will not effect the NRI's more so the NRI's stand to benefit from the Rupee depreciation... Its the Residents of India (Mangalore) who suffer the brutal attack of inflation. Many people commenting here are earning in Dirahms and Dollors and buying multiple properties in Mangalore/ Udupi pushing up the real estate prices unreasonably... Thus making it too expensive to the residents (working in) of Mangalore/Udupi who earn in Rupees and pay heavy taxes... You have to agree to it ... won't you???

Mr. Ratan Tata once said that “All most all are not poor in India as I thought” Because when Tata started marketing “Nano” for poorest of poor Indians with One Lakh base price, only less than 5% opted for this model and all other went for option-2 or option-3, i.e. with AC other few facilities available by paying Rupees 25,000/- more. It shows all most all Indians do not bother about fuel price hike because if you can afford to purchase costly cars means you can afford to fill fuel too. We do not have problem to accept the fuel price hike but provided Oil Companies should decrease the rate when fuel price come down in International Market which they don’t do normally

Most of the vehicle owners are working abroad, some in Bangalore - logically - prices will stay high and people will buy cars as they will want to move upwards. The state govt has a large share of the taxes -almost highest in India(around 31% of the whole - that comes to 25 not 2 rupees) State govt has to look at other avenues for getting more income -BJP or no BJP,

But ,also- high prices of petrol will deter people from misusing their vehicles and will pollute the city less for other people who do not own any vehicle. Better -the transport Minister and DC look at local rail and bus travel .Even now -travel along the NH17 can be made entirely by rail or bus if the will is there by making Large railway junctions at Udupi ,Mulki,Surathkal , Padil and buses coming in as feeders.

In coming years -prices of petroleum products will move steadily upwards .Govt at centre may go bankrupt if they do not raise prices of diesel and lpg. We are a careless nation: Mangalore is no different- look at the parked cars, trucks etc on the road, look at the non existent bus stops- all death traps. garbage strewn across the city and its outskirts.Hotels and large star ones at that built just on the road junctions with barely any parking. To make a hue and cry about petrol prices is justified only if we correct our own behaviour. We do not have a question to the builder when paying large amounts of money while buying apartments .prices of property have gone up maybe 100 times in 40 years .Is anyone wanting to reduce property prices or shall we say only property is market driven not petrol.

    Nagesh
Your comment: "DUE TO BJP GOVT'S DEVELOPMENT PLANK IN KARNATAKA PEOPLE ARE PROSEPEROUS ENOUGH TO BUY ANYTHING."

I agree, why dont then add "PETROL" also in that anything. why make hue and cry for price increase?

Secondly dont you know everytime petorl prices increased, state tax also applied to that increase.

To brush your knowledge SHARE OF STATE TAX IN RECENT PETROL PRICE HIKE IS RS.2/-.

I am sure your paid (i mean employed) for making these comments.

    Jai Ho BJP.

Just like big computer units, television & video sets, music sets, telephone sets and telecommunication units, the current vehicles also will be replaced, discarded or scrapped due to the expensive and exhausting fuel and with the introduction of new environmental friendly vehicles.
We can see the automobile revolution too similar to the telecommunication revolution which we are experiencing today. Therefore, we will have a problem of dumping or storing of existing mushroomed vehicles unless we see an option for their recycling.

Last eight or so INDIA IS SHINING INTERNATIONALLY.But @ present Rupees quantum jump to bottom is a worrying factor. The slide of the rupee is unprecedented that NRI is gaining 20% hike in the salary by default.Yet, as an true Indians we,don't like this.Passenger Vehicle Business once talk of District head quarter now reached to every small town having workshop and showrooms!Apart from that Banks(SBI)and other car financial Corporations offering loans @ cheaper rate. For instance if some one need finance of 1.5 Lakh to buy a car for a year we can get in 7% interest rate that also hassle free. More vehicle financial Corporations are tie up with motor vehicle companies which is offering hassle free loans is main cause up in the business of motor Vehicles.
