Lingappa Poojary Gets New Lease of Life - All is Well

Naveen Menezes
Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore

Mangalore, Oct 17: On July 23 this year, Daijiworld readers had once again proved their immense generosity and support to a humanitarian cause, when the appeal to help Lingappa Poojary, who was suffering from renal failure, went online. Within a matter of just 8 hours, help poured in from all quarters, irrespective of caste or creed, and a whopping Rs 5.02 lac was generated to give new lease of life to Lingappa.

Thanks to our readers, Lingappa has now successfully undergone renal transplantation, and both he and his 50-year-old mother, who had donated her kidney, are doing well. They underwent surgeries recently at Justice KS Hegde Hospital, Deralakatte

For the past 10 months, Lingappa was on regular haemodialysis and on September 15, he received a renal allograft from his mother.

Speaking to Daijiworld, an emotional Lingappa Poojary recalled the huge support extended by Daijiworld readers and thanked everyone for the timely help. "The surgery would not have been possible till my death without their financial support," he said with folded hands.

"When I got discharged, the medical fee came up to Rs 2.38 lac and nearly Rs 40,000 was spent on medication. The doctors have asked me to undergo checkups on alternate days with FBS, Urea, creatinine, potassium and blood tests for three months," he added.

"During the course of the treatment, we had to spend a lot of money at every juncture. It would not have been possible without the intervention of daijiworld and its readers. I have got a rebirth," he said.

Yamuna Poojary, his mother, who donated her kidney to her son, said, "Lingappa and I had tried all possible means to apply for loans, but the banks, co-operative societies and self-help groups refused to lend us money as we had nothing to mortgage and lacked any guarantee of repaying them."

Lingappa recalled that after reading the appeal in daijiworld, many people called him up, enquiring after his health. Some of them even visited his house. He thanked all of them, saying, "They were all strangers to me but their timely financial support gave me my life back."

A few months back Lingappa had hardly any hopes of a future, but now he is full of plans. "After schooling, I worked as an electrician. But the doctors have asked me to avoid lifting heavy objects. Therefore, I want to start an electrical store as I am closely connected to this profession."

"I also want to renovate my house, look after my parents and if possible, help the poor in my hometown," he said, his eyes shining with new hope.

"I had nightmares every day, thinking of the responsibility of looking after the family on the one hand and my deteriorating health on the other. However, today I feel so happy."

Lingappa once again thanked all the donors and every person who prayed for him.

We at Daijiworld salute our readers for once again saving a valuable life, and proving that together we can make a difference.

First time I observe no "Disagrees" for readers comments (except 01 - which may be accidental or by a PSEUDO"). It proves two things.

    a. Daiji world readers are sensitive to the needs of the fellow human beings, regardless of cast, creed or religion.
    b. Daiji world is indeed paying attention to Philanthropic aspects of the society.

Long live Daiji World, Salute to all the donors / Wellwishers and wishing a bright future to Lingappa Poojary.
