Jan 14, 2014
Dear valued readers,
Like in the past 13 years, this Makara Sankranti day of January 14 too is auspicious for us, as we step into another new year, the 14th year of daijiworld.com!
Time flies fast, and responsibility grows day by day. Indian media is passing through one of its toughest challenges due to the social, religious and political developments around the country as well as the rapid growth of technology.
It is our first and foremost duty to thank each and every one of our readers, supporters, contributors, advertisers, well-wishers and our own team members. Without your genuine support we could not have seen this day. We are pleased to share with our readers that we have achieved a 21% growth in readership during the year 2013, which has enabled us to touch a figure of approximately one million page views per day, which we feel is a phenomenal growth, and a testimony to the enormous trust the readers keep in our news portal.
Several of our reports awakened the authorities, created impact, inspired people to act, and we believe our contribution has helped in bringing about social awareness and positive changes to some extent.
With your support we could reach out to the needy in the last year too, like we do every year. Over Rs 1.2 crore was generated through our online appeals in one year, with the total charity generated so far reaching nearly Rs 7.5 crore. We are disclosing this figure only to let you know how a small help from each one of you can make a big difference when it comes to reaching out to the needy people.
There have been several requests from our readers around the world to start a trust fund for the needy so as to reach out to more people. But we politely decline the request at this point, as we feel the present way of reaching out to the needy is more transparent, without getting ourselves involved with the money directly.
Friends, after a challenging, courageous and fruitful journey of 13 years, this year we are moving into our own dream premises in Mangalore. As we progress, our current office is getting too small to accommodate our growing team. Our new, spacious corporate office will be functional from May 2014, with daijiworld website, Weekly (print edition) and TV sections all available at a single point, opposite St Lawrence Church, Bondel at Daijiworld Residency. For the convenience of our walk-in visitors and well-wishers, a representative office will be retained within the city.
We will be announcing an exciting and challenging new media venture of daijiworld around the same time as the opening of our new corporate office. Our aim is to reach out to more audience worldwide in the coming days. Apart from new plans, you will see some new and innovative ways of reporting and approach in our journalism. We are all set to walk hand in hand with technology.
We also thank you for supporting our sister concern 'Daijiworld Weekly', the only English Weekly published from Karnataka which has seen steady growth in the last four years, and is on the verge of celebrating its fifth year. Under the leadership of Hemacharya, its editor-in-chief, we have been able to reach people through our print edition and bring about a new revolution in English print media of the coastal region.
Thank you once again, for appreciating us when you liked our work, and constructively criticising and correcting us when you felt we were wrong, but all we would like to say to you is, under the leadership of Anisa Fathima, our resident editor, an efficient and dynamic journalist who works behind the scenes, along with our complete team of correspondents, reporters, photographers and contributors, we have tried our best to keep up the spirit of journalism. We will learn from our mistakes, if any, and keep up the spirit of ethical journalism throughout our mission. However, we regret that it may not be possible to keep everyone happy, as each person is different, but we are happy to have met the expectations of a majority of our readers. We will continue to work and improve on this front in the coming days..
We seek your blessings and continued support in our journey.
May God bless us all...
Walter Nandalike
Editor-in-chief
