Hundreds throng Delhi airport to welcome Modi

New Delhi, May 17 (IANS): Hundreds of people, including BJP supporters, thronged the Delhi airport Saturday to welcome BJP leader Narendra Modi who is set to take over as the prime minister after the party's win in the Lok Sabha polls.

"We have great hope from Narendra Modi. There is no leader like him. He will lead the country in a new direction," Poornima Rawat, a young party worker from west Delhi, told IANS.

There were many young party supporters in the crowd, donning saffron caps that had "Namo for PM" printed on them.

Over 1,000 Central Industrial Security Force and Delhi Police personnel have been deployed at the airport since 6 a.m., an official said.

Music bands from all the states have also arrived along with the seven BJP parliamentarians who won in Delhi, the party's media convenor Harish Khurana said.
