Nine killed in separate attacks in Yemen

Sanaa, June 26 (IANS): At least nine people were killed and 12 injured Thursday in two attacks in Yemen, media reported.

In one attack, at least three soldiers were killed and 12 injured in a bomb attack at a military base in Yemen, an official told Xinhua.

"The blast occurred after an explosives-laden car struck the main gate of the First Military Region headquarters located in Seiyun town of Hadramout province," the official said.

In the other incident, suspected Al Qaeda militants attacked the Seiyun airport, killing at least six policemen at the scene, a security officer said.

"The airport's control tower was completely destroyed by a rocket-propelled grenade attack. Fierce armed clashes are still going on in the area," the officer said.
