Clean Mangalore drive on Gandhi Jayanti- A reality check

Mangalore, Oct 3: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Swachh Bharat’ campaign launched on Thursday to celebrate Gandhi Jayanti in a meaningful way was observed across the city.

Those who had not yet wielded the broom rushed to streets to clean the city.

One should pause for a moment and ask this question ‘has Mangalore really benefited the drive and got cleaned through this campaign?’

A reality check organized by Daijiworld gives you complete details about the cleaning programme organized on Thursday October 2.

Several people thronged to the streets and began to clean the city to mark the ‘Swachh Bharat’ campaign. Much more than cleaning the city, people loved posing for photographs and TV cameras. This was the effect of PM’s call in city to clean India.

MPs, MLAs and political leaders including those who have not yet wielded the broom in their lifetime were seen cleaning the streets on October 2.

MP Nalin Kumar Kateel cleaned outside the BJP office in the morning but failed to witness the heap of garbage near the BJP District office which lies between the KSR Road and PVS. The trash of heap was lying there from the past 15 days and the City Corporation failed to realize this.

This is the similar problem to many parts of the city. The condition remains the same in Hamapankatte too which is also the heart of the city. Nobody comes forward to question the situation.

The condition remains the same even in front of the SP office. Though the campaign was organized, the trash remains unmoved. Instead, cleaning takes place for the sake of photographs.

If one pledges to clean one’s home and surrounding every day, the dreams of PM Narendra Modi will surly come true.

In today's Udayavani daily newspaper I read that immediately the next day of celebration of Swachcha Bharath the garbage increased by one ton more in Bangalore and there was more dirt than that of previous day. It shows that the celebration was only for a day and from the next day onwards the same old habit is continued. Then what was the use of celebrating this day by spending crores of rupees (tax payers money). I think the same thing is continued in all the states. That was a high drama for a day. Nothing could be achieved. In Mangalore also same thing can be seen.

The MCC initiating cleanliness drive in Mangalore from October 2. The drive will continue till October 31. I appreciate the action has already been taken. At the same time, some people are throwing garbage in the river, road side should be stopped and imposed hefty fine. Further, the garbage should be removed time to time to avoid stray dogs, Birds spreading them around dust bin and making the area more dirty.

This is the right time MCC can change our city clean. MCC should conduct surprise visit to entire district and take necessary action against the erring persons with the help of KSPCB.

I have seen many lorries are plying without covering the cargo properly and cargo are falling on the road causing inconvenient to the bike riders. These lorry drivers / owners should be arrested.

Our people should also take responsibilities to maintain the area clean.

I request Daijiworld to show another important dirtiest Garbage place is beside Urwa Market. People just throw the plastic bags on the road in a huge area and ran away, not bothered to put it in proper place.

SWACHCHA BHAARATH IS A GOOD INITIATIVE BY THE PRIME MINISTER. BUT IF ONE CAN OBSERVE FROM THE PICTURES SHOWN OVER HERE, ONE CAN SEE A GROUP OF PEOPLE ARE HOLDING THE BROOMS IN HAND AND PRETENDING LIKE SWEEPING IN ONE PLACE WHERE THERE IS NOTHING TO CLEAN. IF THEY REALLY WANT TO JOIN HANDS IN CLEANING, THEY SHOULD HAVE TAKEN DIFFERENT PLACES WHERE THERE IS LITTER AND DIRT ACCUMULATED. THIS SHOWS, THESE PEOPLE WHO ARE IN THE GROUP HAVE COME OUT JUST TO POSE IN FRONT OF THE CAMERAS. I'M NOT FROM ANY POLITICAL PARTY, BUT WANT TO SAY THAT IN ONE OF THE PICTURES PM. MODI WAS SWEEPING IN AREAS WHERE THERE WAS LOT OF WASTE. WHY OUR LEADERS CANNOT GO SEPARATELY AND DO THIS WORK RATHER THAN GROUPING IN ONE PLACE? BEFORE STARTING THIS WORK, THEY SHOULD HAVE IDENTIFIED THE AREAS FOR CLEANING AND THEY SHOULD HAVE GONE THERE TO CLEAN SUCH AREAS. I READ THAT SOME PEOPLE CLEANED THE MANGALORE CORPORATION OFFICE COMPOUND. WAS IT NECESSARY? IF THAT IS DIRTY, WHAT WERE THEY DOING ALL THIS TIME WHEN THEY HAVE THE POWER TO GET THE CLEANING DONE NOT ONLY IN THE OFFICE PREMISES BUT IN THE WHOLE OF MANGALORE? DOES IT MEAN THAT THE EMPLOYEES DO NOT CARRY-OUT THEIR CLEANING DUTIES PROPERLY? IF SO WHY THE AUTHORITIES ARE NOT TAKING ANY ACTION? SHAME ON SUCH LAZY AUTHORITIES AND POLITICIANS. IF THEY DO IN THIS MANNER WHAT MESSAGE THEY GIVE TO THE YOUNGER GENERATION AND CHILDREN?

We are experts in manupulation. If mY memory is correct, since last two years ZP is successful in getting 'NirmalA Grama Award'...inspite of ZP office is situated very close to Kottara Chowki area where open drain is flusing with di.ty water and all kinds of snakes openly playing ...In the city in many prominent places no good foot paths (KSR cross road,Hampanmkatta ,in front of busstand in Bejai etc.,)One should see the area in front of Bejai KSRTC bus stand where in always seen with gutka pouches and other garbages.....the situation has not at all improved since years. This is the story of the India's 'fasttest growing tier II city'....Go to city's privatee bus stand which is horrible. No proper sitting arrangement and the ground is full of gharbages and dirty...its a heaven for bus agents and connected people to shout in their own style!!!Our leaders could successful in getting good bus station like one at Hassan....
Still we continue to get 'Nirmala Grama Award'!!! year by year!!!

This is just a drama. If people want to clean, they don’t have to go to the streets, let them clean their own house and backyard. Why all these dramas on Gandhi-Jayanti or other auspicious days? Like they say charity begins at home, cleanliness too begins at home. If everyone keeps his neighborhood clean, the whole nation would be clean. Our politicians don’t miss any opportunity to grab headlines in newspapers. Go to their house and see how many workers clean their house at the cost of tax-payers.

From reports all over looks like
a 'One day Tamashaa'. The main problem is this....
Only if you are clean inside, can you set things in order and cleanly from the outside!
This cleanliness stuff has to come from inside. it can't be forced by somebody from the outside!!
    Agree?
Cleanliness is indeed next to Godliness and to sit next to God in all pure white takes some doing..man! It is not that easy
as belting a speech by any politician!

It's only an eyewash by all these politicians. According to Mr. Modi, we all should spend 2 hours a week and 100 hours per year in cleaning. Let's see how many hours these politicians will spent on cleaning in coming days.
