Mangalore, Nov 23: The city perhaps hadn't witnessed such a scenario at a musical show in recent years. About 10,000 people, as estimated by a police official, gathered in the heart of the city to enjoy a musical feast.
Such was the power of singer KK's vocal performance at the Seagram Imperial Blue Superhits-sponsored musical show 'O Humdum Suniyo Re' on Nehru Maidan on Thursday, November 23 evening that his fans and music-lovers went into an intoxicated kind of trance and danced with abandon to the tunes belted out. If the standing crowd was already on a song, in the VIP section, besides the youth, many adults, including married women, were seen standing and dancing often.
Enchanting dances on the dais, scintillating digital fireworks and brilliant background score added additional spice to the event. KK's hit songs like Yaaron, Saathiya, Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein, Har Dum, Tu hi meri duniya, Kya Mujhse Pyar hai, Eh-ah-oh, Bejaan Dil Ko, Ding Dong Dole, It's the Time to Disco, Koi Kahe etc. drove the crowd into frenzied outbursts of merriment.
The most soul-stirring rendition was of two songs - 'Pal' and 'Tu Hai Aasman mein' (Jhankar Beats). KK also touched the Mangaloreans' hearts by referring to Mangalore every now and then in his songs. 'Hum rahe ya na rahe kal, yaad ayenge Mangalore ke pal' ('Whether I am here or not tomorow, the memories of Mangalore will linger') drew very lusty cheers and applause.
What impressed everyone was the energy and stamina displayed by KK by performing for over two hours, almost non-stop. His slick self-compering, brisk dance steps and sense of humour proved himself to be a human dynamo.
There were a few uneasy situations in the audience, since the crowd strength was unmanageable at certain points. But KK and the female compere gave a soothing touch with their sweet-talking, which seemed to work wonders to some extent.
The security and police personnel had a tough time is guarding the barricades dividing the VIP seats and the 'aam janta' section. At one point, an additional makeshift barricade had to be installed, with a line-up of security staff acting as a human shield to withstand the jostling crowd's might.
There was a general feeling among the crowd while going home that the organizers had not anticipated such a heavy turnout and probably sensing the prospects of the situation going out of hand the show was wound up by 9-40 pm, possibly under instructions from authorities.
