Mangalore: ‘Seven Brides for Seven Brothers’ Musical

Mangalore, Nov 24: With a spectacular performance where sound, light, music, dance and expressions found a perfect blend on stage, ‘Seven Brides for Seven Brothers.’ a play based on the story Sobbin’ Women by Stephen Vincent Benet, Leila Alvares was a huge hit.



The Bangalorean troupe of musician Leila Alvares cast its theatric spell on the audience in St Agnes Auditorium here on Friday.

After Fiddler on the Roof (2002), My Fair Lady (2003), Hello Dolly (2004), and The Sound of Music (2005), ‘Seven Brides for Seven Brothers’ brought life into the dormant Mangalore theatre buffs.



The live music directed by Michael D’Souza set the mode to the play. The costumes were designed by Asha Fernandez and set by Barbara Lazaro and Kumar and brought the old-fashioned love story set in Oregon, live again on the city stage.
 
However with no adequate support from sponsors, the show did not reach its target of generation adequate funds to meet its objectives. However, CAUSE Foundation which produced the musical contributed a certain portion of the proceeds of the play towards the scholarship fund of St Agnes College to enable poor students complete college education.



Animal Care Trust (ACT) was also given financial help to treat stray animals as part of the environmental strategy of CAUSE Foundation.

Arvind Kasturi (Adam Pontipee), Sharon White (Milly Pontipee), Jude Lazaro, Prem Koshy were the familiar faces that were seen by Mangaloreans after the earlier performances.






The troupe will visit Mangalore in 2007 with yet another classic musical ‘Joseph and the Amazing Dream Coat'.
