Dubai: Poet Melwyn Rodrigues Honoured at 'Katapadi Utsav'

Dubai, Dec 2: 'Katapadi Utsav', the first anniversary of the Katapadi parishioners (Udupi district, Mangalore diocese) residing in UAE was held on Dec 2, 2006 at Dubai Grand Hotel  

Joseph Mathias of Merit Freight System was the guest of honor. Fr Freddy D`Souza of St Mary's Church Dubai was chief guest. 





The 'Katapadeans' honoured poet Melvyn Rodrigues for his contribution to Konkani language and literature. His work in the field of Konkani poetry was lauded on the occasion.  

The organizers honoured Melvyn with a shawl, memento and a citation. In response to the honour, Melvyn appreciated the efforts of the people in identifying and honouring talent.  

Melwyn also assured to Endeavour towards the upliftment of Konkani language and culture in the coming days 

Joseph Mathias and Fr Freddy appreciated the work of the Katapadians and wished them well. 

Director of the association Joseph Rodrigues and President Agnel D`Silva were also present on the occasion. 

Various culture activities including dance and music from children and adults were held. 






Dony Correa, talent young compere conducted the programme. 'Rhythms' the popular music group entertained the crowd with foot-tapping Tulu, Kannada, Konkani and Hindi music.
