British Council International School Award

The British Council International School Award (ISA) is an accreditation scheme that recognizes and celebrates exemplary practices of internationalism in schools. Green Valley National School, Shiroor has accomplished this achievement by meeting the assessment criteria through the combined effort of the ISA team and students. The ISA journey for Green Valley National School, Shiroor commenced in June 2014 and was a great beginning and learning experience for the entire team.

The plethora of activities that encompass students from grade I to X have an international dimension as mandated by the British Council. The ISA provides a framework for schools to develop an action plan and implement international activities throughout the year and encourage schools to collaborate with overseas schools to create a rich learning experiences for students through the use of ICT, creative pedagogical practices and real context for learning. All activities that were chosen had to be linked to the existing curriculum thereby providing for greater enrichment in learning.

Bonding Internationally

In order to provide a cross cultural exposure and a global perspective to the students, GVNS has developed an extensive International Students Exchange Network. These Exchanges have become increasingly popular with the students and nearly all classes get a chance to spend time with other International Schools via Video Conferencing and exchanging ideas and projects with partner schools.

Students from grade 9 were engaged through Skype conferences with Papatoetoe High school Auckland (New Zealand) to discuss about major mountains of the world. They discussed about mountains of both the countries with powerpoint presentations.

John Paul II School in Poland had several Skype meetings on how festivals are celebrated in India, and both schools had excellent discussions on food, culture, and special days celebrated in both countries.

There were other enriching experiences like when students from Spain and students from Green Valley National School exhanged mails and discussed hobbies and shared ideas and thoughts on music dances etc.

Students have learned through these activities to bridge the cultural divide across the world and have joined in to celebrate the wonderful diversity of the human race.

GVNS plans to include more such activities with overseas schools in the coming academic year thus helping students to understand the world they live in and become truly graceful global citizens.

Efforts are under way to expand the programme further and enable an even larger number of students to avail of this unique opportunity. The students not on the exchange programme benefit through interaction with the large number of overseas students, they learn more about other countries, their geography culture and update on day-to-day life.

IAS, IPS & CIL Service Examination Coaching

Special coaching for IAS, IPS and civil service aspirants is going on at Green Valley. The first Session was conducted at Green Valley National School and PU College by Bengaluru Rural SP Abdul Ahad Puthige. Additional sessions are in the pipeline with an extensive coaching programme for selected students at Bengaluru. These coachings will always be a regular feature at Green Valley.

Trinity College, London 'ESOL' Exams

English is the language of international communication for study, research, business and industry. It is no wonder then that, every year, more and more students are turning to Trinity College, London for an internationally recognized qualification.

Trinity has been setting standards and testing English language for more than 50 years. The certificates are accepted by universities and employers worldwide.

Green Valley is collaborating with Trinity College London to conduct its exams in English Language Proficiency at Green Valley. External examiners from Trinity College will assess and award Green Valley students in their language proficiency. Students of Green Valley will have this opportunity from 2015.

Entrance Coaching (CET, IIT/JEE, AIPMT)

A two-year Integrated Entrance Coaching programme is conducted at Green Valley National School and PU College in collaboration with a leading entrance coaching centre at Green Valley. This caters to CET, JEE , AIPMT etc. Bridge programmes are also conducted ensuring competitive edge for the children preparing for entrance exams.

Faculty
