Udupi, Apr 29: Jagadish Acharya Kaup (51), son of the late Ananthayya Acharya, former taluk panchayat member and BJP leader, breathed his last on Thursday April 28. Acharya had suffered grave injuries in a road accident which had occurred on the day election was held for the newly formed Kaup municipality. Acharya was under treatment since that day, and efforts to save him failed.
Acharya has left behind mother, wife, and two sons.
Jagadish Acharya was a partner in Anant Mahal Kaup and owned Jayalaxmi Jewellers,Pooja Services, and Kartik Enterprises in Kaup. He was also serving as director of Udupi Taluk Industrial Cooperative Society, Kaup Vikas Credit Cooperative Society, and Kaup Credit Sauharda Cooperative (Ltd). He had served as member of Uliyargoly gram panchayat once, and member of the taluk panchayat for a term. He had fought as BJP candidate for Kaup municipality in the recent election from Koppalangady ward, but was defeated.
Acharya had functioned as general secretary of Kaup constituency BJP unit, former president of Kaup Jaycees, former zonall head of JCI, office bearer of Kaup Rotary Club and Kaup Goddess Kalikamba Temple Renovation Committee. He also was active in various other service organizations.
He had miraculous escaped with injuries in an accident which had occurred on May 2, 2015 at Padubidri. He had not fully recovered from the injuries he had suffered in that accident, when he met with another road accident at Kaup on April 24. The nature of his injuries was grave, and he was being treated at Manipal hospital since then.
