Mangaluru: Section 144 imposed in city as 'precautionary measure'

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (DV)

Mangaluru, Apr 29: In the wake of the recent incidents of attacks in Ullal, prohibitionary orders have been imposed under all police station limits under Mangaluru city police commissionerate, except Panambur.

Confirming the same, official sources said that Section 144 has been imposed from 6 am on Friday April 29 to 6 pm on April 30, for a period of 36 hours.

The prohibitory orders are in force under the limits of all police stations like Konaje, Ullal, Pandeshwar, Mangaluru rural, Bunder, Barke, Kadri and others, except Panambur.

Though DCP Shantharaju did not specify the reason for imposing the prohibitory orders, he said that it has been done as precautionary measure to maintain law and order.

Sources also said an organization had planned to carry out a rally on Friday but had been denied permission, and there was apprehension that it would go ahead with the rally without the permit. Hence, as a precautionary step, the prohibitory orders have been issued, sources revealed.

Following the murder of Raju Kotian of Mogaveera community in Ullal recently, a spate of attacks have been reported in the town. On April 25, there were two such cases of assaults, followed by another one the very next day. Prohibitory orders were issued in Ullal thereafter and police held a peace march too. So far, police have arrested one person in connection to one of the attacks.

Police commissioner Chandra Sekhar is expected to address a press conference soon.

    Mr.Mangalorean reader,

Sir,Though Congress in power in the state,Mangalore is in iron grip of radical inclined BJP from 2 decades.

Since BJP ruling city became more favourable for radical Hindutva. In our time there religion has no barrier.

The city is doomed to be failed which has highest density of educated people.

It need Communal mukth more than congress mukth in present time.

It is unfortunate that Mangalore which was once a peaceful city is now going through these situations. Even though There is a good Police force, it is unfortunate that murders like these take place. It is advisable that that A PEACE COMMITTER IS FORMED TO ENSURE THAT FUTURE PROBLEMS LIKE THESE DO NOT TAKE PLACE.

Mangaloreans should be enjoying 'Aache Din' much before rest of India.Because they voted for BJP to power from last two decades.

However known educational hub lived in peace is become hotbed for communal activity.

Is this going to be 'smart city' where people of different faith can't make eye to eye contact?

Unfortunately this is called educated people district. What is the point education if they can't elect 'smart leader'?

We need some mighty samaritans to make some efforts to keep peace with all inhabitants in this smart city which has now increased with many untold incidents of robbery, goondaism, communalism etc. Do not believe in outsiders who are trying to destroy the peace but teach them to live in harmony.

Mangalore was once an exemplary town for communal harmony and peace. Now, even North Indian based english language TV channels brand Mangalore as one of the most communally sensitive cities in India. At this rate we may not get the tag "smart city" but "hate city".
