Udupi, Apr 29: One person was killed and two others injured after a fish lorry rammed into a stationary truck on NH 66 at Udyavar here on Friday April 29.
The deceased has been identified as Gowdappa (51) and the injured are Kantharaju and Putturaju. All three hail from Holenarasipura of Hassan.
It is learnt that Gowdappa, Kantharaju and Puttaraju were transporting sugarcane in their truck, and after unloading, had parked their truck near Halima Sabju hall at Udyavar on the national highway.
Driver Gowdappa and the other two got down from the truck and were standing nearby when a fish lorry moving from Udupi to Mangaluru rammed into the parked truck from behind. Gowdappa came underneath the lorry wheels and was killed instantly, while the other two sustained minor injuries.
The injured were admitted to government hospital by social worker Nityananda Olakadu in his ambulance.
Following the accident, traffic was affected on the highway for sometime, especially due to wedding functions scheduled in Udyavar.
