Mangaluru, Apr 30: Leela Narayana Shetty Centre for Neurosciences and Research, set up by Nitte University at its KS Hegde Hospital, Deralakatte, was inaugurated on Friday April 29. Dr Narayana Shetty, husband of Leela Narayana Shetty inaugurated the Centre.
Addressing the gathering after the inaugural ceremony, Dr K Narayana Shetty, a highy qualified cardiologist based in Pittsburgh, USA, said that he has always been extending a helping hand to patients of neurology and cancer and will continue doing so.
"Nitte Institute has become famous nationally and internationally due to its excellent service, and has made everyone proud," he added.
Nitte University chancellor N Vinay Hegde, who presided over the programme said that the new Centre has been established at a cost of Rs 10 crore. "The University has created a niche for itself through its excellent service and quality education. The process of innovation in the University is continous with the adoption of modern and advanced technology.
"KSHEMA has 280 postgraduate teachers with 23 super-specialty departments. The young doctors here examine and treat nearly 3,000 patients per day. Service is given utmost importance here. Doctors can earn more if they open clinics in the city, but they are content serving in KSHEMA Hospital. Such service has made the Institute successful," he said.

Hospital management and medical postgraduate studies sub-registrar, Prof Dr M Shantaram Shetty spoke about Dr K Narayana Shetty and the new Centre. Retired Lokayukta justice N Santhosh Hegde conveyed his best wishes. Nitte University sub registrar N Vishal Hegde, Bengaluru University retired registrar Dr N R Shetty, Nitte Education Trust trustee Guruprasad Adyanthaya, trustee B R Shetty, Kshema dean professor Dr Sathish Kumar Bhandary and Kshema neurology department head professor Dr Lekha Pandith were present.
Nitte University Chancellor Dr M S Moodithaya proposed the vote of thanks. Professor Dr S Ramananda Shetty welcomed the guests. Nitte University director Dr Rajashekar compered the programme.
