Sullia, May 1: "There is no connection between Yettinahole project and drought situation in the region. People should not link these two separate things. Drought situation prevails in the entire nation," said district in-charge minister Ramanath Rai on Saturday, April 30.
He was speaking to the media and answering a question whether Yettinahole project will worsen the drought situation in the region.
“Yettinahole project is being implemented at a time when the some people criticized the project with negative inputs. They accused that the district will not get justice. One should not forget that the project was initiated during the tenures of D V Sadananda Gowda’s and Jagadish Shettar,” Rai added.
“There is no shortage of money with the state government for the effective drought management. Underground water level is the main problem which should improve. We will take over private wells to supply water to the public, if needed,” Rai said.
"Paschima Vahini project will find the solution for the existing water problems of the region. Small dams will be built in various places on the rivers flowing towards the west. This will address the water problems properly and will also increase the underground water level. An sincere attempt will be made for the fast implementation of this project,” Rai concluded.
Rai inaugurated the 1.8 kilometer road with an outlay of Rs 3 crore connecting Karnataka and Kerala through Narkodu, Kolcharu, Kanakkuru and Bandadka. MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, minister Vinay Kumar Sorake and MLA Shakunthala Shetty also participated in the programme.
