Thieves strike opposite ASP's house, steal jewellery worth Rs 4.5 lac

Daijiworld Media Network - Puttur (SP)

Puttur, May 2: Thieves entered a house in Darbe in the town on the night of Saturday April 30 and decamped with gold jewellery worth Rs 4.5 lac. The theft came to light on Sunday May 1 morning. The man who lost the ornaments happens to be K Prabhakar Shenoy, a resident of Darbe here.

The thieves broke open the front door of Shenoy's house and took away ornaments kept in the almirah. The family had left for Kozhikode in Kerala on Saturday to take part in a function being held there on Sunday. The person who delivers milk at doorsteps noticed on Sunday morning that the front door of Shenoy's house had been broken.

The thieves were seen to have thrown silver ornaments here and there, and left the foreign currency notes inside the almirah untouched. There were tell-tale signs of the thieves having sifted through drawers and almirahs for cash. In all probability, the theft occurred past midnight on Saturday.

Nephew of K Prabhakar Shenoy, K Prashant Shenoy, who lives by the side of Prabhakar Shenoy's house, informed the police about the theft. On getting information, Prabhakar Shenoy came back from Kozhikode on Sunday evening. The lost jewellery items were listed in the presence of family members, town police inspector, K Mahesh Prasad, police sub-inspector, Abdul Khader, and others. A case was registered in the town station.

The police night patrol was on during Saturday night too as usual with the help of four teams. Still this theft went unnoticed to the surprise of the people as well as the policemen. It is also surprising that all the seven thefts which occurred during the last one year in the town occurred on Saturday nights after families left the previous night for the week end programme. Another surprising fact is that the house where this burglary took place is located opposite the residential quarters of the assistant commissioner and assistant superintendent of police here.

There are striking similarities between the theft which occurred last Saturday at the house of Dr Subrahmanya Bhat ar Mukrampady and hence, it is believed that the same team of thieves were behind the current theft.

Appears that the number of thieves is more than that of dogs.

Couldn't one dog in the vicinity sense suspicious movement ? Not even the one in the opposite house ? Or, is everybody sleeping keeping their A/c on - deaf to their dog's barking ?

@Salvador Pereira, you are right.People who announce their journey ,Party visit, etc.in Face book give Invitation for thieves. Here in Germany there are gangs who brake into the houses where a Family take part in mourning ceremony at grave Yard,or Family fest like marriage in halls.Thats why now they dont give addresses of People who died in papers, which again makes some criminal Partys to send wrong payment bills.when People mourn, they are thinking of how to earn Money out of their sad moment.
