Mangaluru, May 7: All roads led to Hotel Taj Gateway on Friday May 6 evening as stylish Bollywood actress Kalki Koechlin made her maiden visit to the city as part of the eight-city Blenders Pride Magical Nights tour.
It was an amalgamation of new age music and fashion as the stunning Kalki oozed charisma and grace as she walked the ramp and musical band Madboy/Mink had everyone grooving to peppy music.
Elaborating on her style statement, Kalki said, "My experiences in India and across the world helped me build by style statement which is a true reflection of my personality - bold yet vibrant. Right from theatre to the kind of films I have done to the scripts I have written, every work I have done is an extension of my thoughts and is mostly mercurial. Every project I work on, I challenge myself to do something different, better than what I have done earlier. This dynamism is at the very core of style for me."
In a media interaction earlier in the evening, Kalki said she loved visiting Mangaluru and would visit again to try surfing here. "This is my first visit to Mangaluru. It is a beautiful city and I hope to come back for surfing," she said.
On winning the National Award for her movie 'Margarita, With a Straw', she said, "It feels really good, it is a great honour to win a National Award."
To a question on her nation-wide tour, she replied, "Blenders Pride Magical Nights is basically about taking fashion to tier-II cities. I have been to Jaipur, Nagpur, Indore and now Mangaluru. So I get to see cities which I have never seen before, like Mangaluru, which is great."
Asked if there was any particular role she would like to play in movies, she said, "I want to do everything. As an actor I want to be as versatile as I can. I would love to do an action film, which I have never done. I would love to play a historical character based on a real person. I would love to act with Nawazuddin Siddique. He is a brilliant actor and we would make a very interesting pair.
Asked if she has had any connection with Mangaluru or Karnataka, she suprised the media by reply in Kannada, "Swalpa swalpa Kannada gotthu (I know a bit of Kannada). I have a connection with only Bengaluru as I grew up there during part of my teenage years. But I do not really know Mangaluru."
She also said she was ready to do a Kannada movie if she were offered a good script.
On her fitness regime, she said, "I do a lot of swimming. I am quite a water baby. I do not go to the gym. I jog on sand and I think that helps. And I stay happy."
Blenders Pride Magical Nights is an eight-city tour that commenced from Jaipur in February this year, and has so far travelled to Guwahati, Bhubaneswar, Nagpur, Indore and Mangaluru. It will next move to Chandigarh and Ludhiana. The tour is aimed at taking fashion to tier-II cities with a blend of music and technology.
