Kundapur, May 7: Jayashree Sudhakara Mogaveera was elected president of Kundapur taluk Panchayat and Preveen Kumar Shetty Kadke as vice president unopposed in the election held May 7.
There are 26 BJP members and 11 Congress members in the 37 member Kundapur taluk panchayat. The post of president was reserved for general category woman and that of vice president for backward class. Both are from BJP.
Only Jayashree and Praveen Kumar Shetty Kadke had submitted nominations for the posts of president and vice-president. Therefore both of them were elected unopposed. It was special that post graduate degree holder occupied the post of president.
Zilla panchayat president Dinakar, BJP district president Thingale Vikramarjuna Hegde, fishermen federation convener B Kishore Kumar, Zilla panchayat member Babu Shetty, Taluk panchayat senior member Raju Devadiga, Jyothi Puthran, Taluk panchayat former president Bhaskar Billava, Panchayat Raj scholar T T Shetty, Kundapur constituency BJP president Rajesha Kaveri and BJP leader from Byndoor constituency congratulated new president and vice-president.
Assistant commissioner R Ashwathi conducted the election. Taluk panchayat executive officer Narayana Swamy was present.
Jayashree Sudhakar Mogaveera, the newly elected president represents Molahalli taluk panchayat constituency. She has served as the former secretary of Grama Yojanae Okkoota and is active member of Mogaveera Women's association.
She has conducted awareness campaign, blood donation camp, programme on women's empowerment and legal awareness, eye check up camp, distribution of spectacles to the poor, harvesting of rain water and such other pro people programmes. She is an active BJP worker. She contested the elections for the first time and won.
Newly elected vice president Pravin Kumar Shetty represents Nada taluk panchayat constituency. He was elected a member in Nada grama panchayat three times and has also served as president for a term. Besides being director of Nada milk producers association, he was also elected for Padukone Cooperative society as director twice and as vice-president once. He is an active BJP worker and a member of state BJP Yuvamorcha.
