Kundapur, Jul 10: "A conspiracy is being hatched to convert a spot within the school compound into private space. If an effort is made to convert a spot inside the school ground into religious centre, it will be against the constitution. Moreover, this also has the potential of flaring up communal passions. If a conspiracy towards this end is plotted and executed, we will join hands with the general public and fight against this conspiracy tooth and nail," warned district Bajrang Dal joint convener, Girish Kundapur.
Speaking at a press conference held at the Press Club here on Saturday July 9, he said that the said that the board high school which is located at the centre of this town, has a history of over 130 years and a student strength of over 2,000.
"There is a centre in the middle of the school ground where Muslims offer prayers once or twice a year. The Muslim community is making efforts to convert this space into their private property. We condemn these efforts," he stated.
The play ground of the school at present is insufficient for the exercise, play, and other activities of the students of the school. In the backdrop of this, the demand being put forth by Muslim leaders to hand over 36 cents of land to them is childish to say the least. If they want spacious land for the prayer centre, we have no objection towards shifting the current centre of worship located in the school compound to a vacant, spacious land opposite the mosque in the town," he stated.
"In the petition submitted to the newly inducted minister, Muslim leaders have uged to allot 16 cents out of 1.60 acres of land standing under survey No. 147/1A to the mosque. During verification of documents pertaining to this land, it has been found that illegal transactions have taken place in the records pertaining to this site. In the original Adangal document, this land is shown as school land. Later, in someone's handwriting, it has been mentioned as 'Idgah'. Later, the RTC shows it as school land. In the computer RTC too owner of the land has been mentioned as government. In this connection, we had met the subdivsional officer and given oral complaint. We urge the officials concerned to change irregular and illegal entries in the record, and pass orders to see that the records should be retained as stated in the original documents," he explained.
The press conference was also attended by Hindu Jagran Vedike leaders Shankar nkadakatte, Dinesh Achar, and others.
