Janmashtami gets freedom flavour

Mathura, Aug 15 (IANS): Janmashtami celebrations this year have a distinct freedom flavour, with some Sri Krishna idols attired in colours of the national flag and tri-colour "burfies" distributed as prasad here.

Temples in Mathura and Vrindavan have used the colours of the national flag for decoration. Street lighting, banners and the ubiquitous hoardings of politicians greeting pilgrims have fused festival flavour with patriotic fervour.

"The unique feature this year is the impact of the boycott of Chinese decorative items in response to tension on our borders," said Acharya Jaimini, a resident.
