Mangalore: Exclusive School for the Visually-challenged Closes Shop

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Jun 25: Roman and Catherine Lobo School for the visually-challenged, started in Bejai-Kapikad in the city in the year 2004 for serving the children with visual impairment, has ceased to function from this academic year. The reason for the decision is said to be the dwindling student strength.

In the initial year, the strength of the school was six which went up to 18 in the following year but fell down to 14 in the last year.

It is learnt, that the parents of the visually-challenged children are wary of sending them to special schools. The children would have been benefitted a lot if they were sent to the school specifically meant for them. School manager P Manoharan is disappointed over the fact that the school could not survive in spite of the fact the city has a lot of blind and partially blind children. The children who attend normal schools do not get the skills and knowledge they needed, he laments.
