Kundapur: 15-day Training on Shrimp Culture Organized

Kundapur, Jul 10: A workshop on shrimp culture was recently organized under a central government sponsored project for the year 2007-08 by the Udupi prawn culture development society.

The training was held for 15 days at Mogaveera Sabha Bhavana, Kundapur. Nagesh Raikar, projects director, Udupi Panchayat, inaugurated the programme. Experts from MPEDA and CFTR of Mangalore College of Fisheries were the resource persons at the seminar and gave the trainees their valuable practical experience and knowledge.

Prof K M Shankar, principal, Mangalore Fisheries College, presided over the function and in his address recommended that the trainees grow sweet water fish in addition to prawns to enhance their income.

Among the chief guests present were B Herianna, branch president, Mogaveera Mahajana Seva Sangha, Varadaraj, assistant professor of fisheries, Kenchanuru Somashekhara Shetty, Sundara Raj, and Shridhara Hegde, all progressive shrimp culturists.

Raj and Hegde spoke about the problems, faced by shrimp culturists. K Krishna Raj Puranik, chief executive director, Udupi prawns culture development society, welcomed the gathering and gave a brief introductory speech. C S Kharvi, fisheries development officer, gave the vote of thanks.
