Mangalore, Oct 7: The families of those arrested on suspicion of terrorist links have said that they are shocked at the media reports which are presenting facts in a different light.
Mymuna, wife of Muhammad Ali, one of the arrested said that he is innocent and a strong believer in humanity. She accused the media of fabricating the allegations against him. ‘My husband has not left the house even for a day. But some media reports have said that he visited Surat, Hyderabad, and other places, with a person known as Ahmed Bawa. It is contradictory to fact,’ added Mymuna.

Speaking to Daijiworld, she said that a large number of policemen had barged into their house in the wee hours on Friday October 3 and asked about Ahmed Bawa. ‘We do not know a person named Ahmed Bawa. But the police asked us repeatedly and beat my husband and locked him in a room. Later, they took him and my son Javed Ali. They asked us to hand over pistols to them. We do not have weapons as such. The police also threatened to arrest us.’
Inaaz, daughter of Muhammad Ali, said that her father does not know to operate a computer. The computer has remained untouched for the past six months due to a technical problem, she said. The police took the CDs of Islamic preachings, and the CPU.
‘He used to watch computer games and he was interested in learning about Islam. Therefore, he used to bring CDs which contained messages of peace and brotherhood which tries to remove the misconception over Islam. Our computer also had no internet connection, added Inaz.
She alleged that some media persons interviewed her and misquoted her turning the reports to say that the family had confessed to her father’s terrorist links. She said they had settled in Mukkacherri a month ago, before which they lived at Maryhill.
Irshad, father of Naushad, another of the arrested, said that nothing was found in their house except some CDs of Islamic preachings by scholars. He added that media reports were confusing. ‘The police have taken the CPU and some CDs and Noushad’s bike from my house. Nothing else was found in my house. But the media reported that bombs and cash were seized from my house. It has deeply hurt me.’
He said that his other son Naahid, was also arrested but released after three days in police custody.
‘Naushad is an innocent boy. One cannot expect such an incident in his life. We believe in justice. Terrorism cannot be justified. Whatever CDs police have taken were bought by me. As for now, the police have taken four mobile phones from our house. They also took my passport and have not returned it, said Irshad.
