Mangalorean Tennis Star Rikeetha to Represent UAE in UK Grand Prix

Dubai, Nov 25: Mangaloreans are regularly being featured on mainstream news worldwide for their talents and achievements recently. Be it fashion, acting, dance, sports or leadership, we see Mangaloreans on the lime light.
Here is a 10-year-old little girl , a Tennis sensation, also a Mangalorean , Rikeetha Pereira residing in Dubai . She is now set to play the Triangular Grand Prix finals at the Lawn Tennis Association HQ – in Roehampton UK on 6th December 2008. She represents UAE in the finals.
She reached the finals after she came out victorious in the tournament sponsored by Dubai Duty Free for Girls under 14. She was the youngest participant in the tournament.
She began her Tennis career at a tender age of 6, and Rikeetha has made remarkable progress in the field of Tennis since then.
A Grade 6 student of the Indian High school, Karama Dubai, Rikeetha is the daughter of Rudolf and Anitha Pereira of Byndoor, Kundapur.
"She not only excels in sports, but is brilliant in studies, singing, elocution, dramatics etc" says her proud mother Anitha while speaking to daijiworld.com
Initially this was just fun time sports, but as she started developing interest towards this fantastic sport she gave more of her time for practice. This year she has taken part in all the Tennis tournaments held in UAE both in the under 10 girls & Boys and under 12 and 14 girls categories.
Rikeetha is currently ranked No. 1 Tennis player in UAE in the under - 12 group. Immediately after the London Grand Prix she is heading to Nagpur to play in the national level Junior tennis , again representing the UAE.
