Need synergy among all three organs of state: Speaker

New Delhi, Nov 26 (IANS): Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan on Monday said there should be synergy among all three organs of the state -- the legislature, executive and judiciary -- to ensure faster economic progress.

"These are the three pillars of democracy and reinforcing each other serves to establish a strong democracy, which in turn creates a conducive environment for the holistic development of the country," she said while addressing a session organised here by the Supreme Court as part of the Constitutional Day celebrations.

Referring to the special developmental requirements of the aspirational districts, she called upon policy makers to devise credible strategies to ensure speedy development.

She highlighted that the youth can play an important role in nation-building.

She said the Constitution has successfully worked after independence and India has emerged as the largest democracy of the world.

Underlining that the Preamble of the Constitution starts with the term ‘We the people..', she said that over the past 70 years the Constitution had served to ensure social harmony in the country with a strong moral foundation.

"The practice of untouchability has been abolished and there has been substantial development in the fields of women empowerment, education, health and agriculture through progressive legislations made by Parliament and their execution by the government," Mahajan said.
