Mumbai, Feb 24: The formal inauguration of the Vasai Taluka Welfare Association was held on Sunday February 22 at Swami Narayan Mandir Hall, Samta Nagar, Vasai West. Madhukar Deshmukh, chairman, Vasai East Senior Citizen’s Association, was the chief guest of the programme.
Ex-corporator Shilpa Marathe, and social activist Joseph K Francis, were the guests of honour.
Giving the keynote address, president Anil Thadathil said that the first step of the association is to file an RTI and PIL in order to solve the problem of electricity in Vasai.
Meanwhile, Deshmukh stressed the need for a good hospital in the area while Marathe said that citizens do not elect the right people to represent them. They need to first look at the credentials of the person contesting elections, their education, and their profession. She also expressed the need for utilizing the rights every citizen has.
Francis said that every member needs to work hand-in-hand for the growth of the association and the society. Secretary K V R Kamath gave information on filing of RTI and PIL.
Members came forward with many suggestions in solving the problems of Vasai. Major issues discussed were a uniform auto fare system, an alternate transport system, building a hospital, demolition of illegal buildings, and the like.
Thadathil gave the vote of thanks while vice-president Vincent D’Mello compered the programme. Treasurer Anna Fernandes, committee members Vijay Singh Patil, Prakash Yadav, and Shamrao Amle were present on the occasion.
