Mangalore, Mar 8: “Jentilancho Apostle Sa Paul,” a Biblical play ,was staged to a packed audience at St Agnes Special School grounds, here on Sunday March 8 evening.  It was staged in aid of St Ann’s Education Institutions, Kelarai.

The play was based on St Paul’s missionary work in the early Christian era.  He was a zealous missionary who brought good news of Christ  to lesser known Gentiles.  Saul of Tarsus , as he was then known,  made it his goal to capture, then bring Christians to public trial and execution.  His conversion came while on his journey to persecute the faithful in the Middle East.  He was struck down from his horse with a bolt from heaven and became  blind, as the Lord asked him, “ Saul, Saul, why art thou persecuting me ?”   An angel of the Lord then guides him to a  devout Christian home,  in a far away land . His sight is then  restored .  Later, he becomes the most zealous follower of Christ and is ready to lay down his life for the sake of his Christian faith and his savior Jesus Christ.

The performance of the artistes playing various roles truly brought the religious fervor onto the viewers, with glimpses of desert life of early Christians and the persecutions by Roman rulers and their commanders.  It was an attempt to re-kindle the spirituality among the faithful especially during the Lenten season.

I must congrtulate  the parishioners of  Kelarai, who have gone house to house to sell the tickets for the show. It is pity that, after all the efforts, the church attenders are decreasing. Most of the parishioners are turning away from this church. May God help this church and hope one day we will see the same crowd we had years ago.
