Mangaluru, Oct 26: St Ann’s College of Education (Autonomous), here, held its Graduation Day on Friday October 25 at the College Conference Hall.
The day marked a celebration where the BEd teacher trainees glided out of the portals of this institution as full-fledged teachers to keep alight the torch of learning and keep alive the motto of the College Prakashathi-thu-Prakashitah, which means, ‘Lighted to Light’. The programme began by invoking God’s blessings. Sr Zeena, principal I/c welcomed the gathering and introduced the chief guest Prof A M Khan, registrar, Mangalore University, Mangalagangothri and other dignitaries.
The college report gave a glimpse of all the activities of the current year. The toppers of Bed and MEd were felicitated. The gold medallists Aisha Nishana of BEd and Sr Shashi Toppo of MEd were awarded on behalf of the founded prizes of the Alumnae Association. The winners of the various competitions conducted for BEd students were distributed prizes and a couple of scholarships and founded prizes were awarded to the deserving students.
The chief guest in his message to the graduating teachers mentioned that the teacher trainees should imbibe qualities of learning, unlearning and relearning and be the leaders to produce leaders. He appreciated the institution for the discipline and the ways and means through which culture and values are practised.
The cultural programme sequenced a folk dance, eastern song and a semi classical dance. A tableau explicating the vision and mission of Apostolic Carmel Congregation to initiate a teacher training institute in India was performed.
Sr Maria Shubha AC, secretary, Apostolic Carmel Educational Society, Karnataka Province and Sr Maria Kripa A C, joint secretary, St Ann’s College of Education were present. Dr Sharmila L Mascarenhas co-ordinated the programme. Gauri Dessai Bed, student compered the programme and Jahnavi Sanal V, Bed, student president, rendered the vote of thanks.
