Sharjah, Dec 21: Mogaveer U A E celebrated their second annual cum sports day at Sharjah Wanderers Club here on Friday December 18.
It was a daylong event of fun and frolic for the mogaveers. The event began with the prayer by Laxmi Balakrishana Salian and Deepak Raj Kotian. Senior Mogaveer UAE member and advisor Bhoja B Kanchan inaugurated the event followed by oath taking ceremony.
Mogaveera children took a running lap around the ground along with balloons and Chandrashekar R Salian declared the sport meet open by releasing the colourful balloons.
The sports day began with the events ball race and running race organized for children below five years. All children took part in the games enthusiastically. Then games such as running race and balancing the books were held for children between age group of five and nine years.
As the day progressed the events for seniors were organized. Events for senior began with 100 mts race for men and women.
For seniors above 35 years there was back race and threa and needle race, which was participated by all with great enthusiasm .
Yadav Kotian, general secretary thanked all the guest who joined the celebration. Noel D’Almeida, president, Karnataka Sangh Sharjah (KSS), Mark Dennis, patron, KSS, Ganesh Rai, former president, KSS, Mohan Attavar, president, Billawas Dubai-NE, Praveen Kumar, vice-president, Billwas Dubai-NE, Jitendra Suvarna and Satish Poojary of Billawas Dubai – NE, Mohammed Shahad, president of BCF, Sharjah Unit, S S Rao, Mysore Palace Restaurant and Madhav Hejmady, secretary of Billawa Balaga – Dubai among others were present.
The next game of the day was shot-put and lot of men and women participated in the event.
Purshotam Suvarna, secretary thanked the sports committee members led by Satish R.Karkera, Vinod Kanchan, Mohit Bangera, Dinesh Kanchan, Karan, Jagannath Kunder, Dhananjay Kanchan, Shasidhar Kotian, Yatish Puthran, Rohitaksha Salian, Manish and Kamal Bangera. Ladies wing too has contributed for organizing the sports event. Anita Dhananjay Kanchan ,Supria Kanchan ,Laxmi Balakrishna Salian, Nalini Deepak Kotian, Rekha Jagannath Kunder and Shailaja Kotian were among the team members.
Delicious lunch was served with mouth- watering Mangalorean traditional dish, bangude gasi, a type of fish curry and kori sukka, a type of chicken curry by Das Prakash Restaurant – Dubai.
Little Simran and Shreya played keyboards brilliantly as well as some singers entertained the audience Harsha Harish Amin performed her Rajasthani folk solo dance, Chamak Cham Cham raised the spirit of the audience.
After the lunch session, events for couples was held such as three-legged race followed by sack race for men and 4 x 400 mts relay comprising two women and two men in a team.
The highligt of the evening was the tug-of-war event, which was also the last event of the day. There were eight teams participating for the cup, which was won by United Yermal team led by Balakrishna Salian. The runner-up was the team, Bengre Vidyarthi Sangha led by Kiran.
Late in the evening there was a surprise appearance by Santa Claus, who gave away gifts and chocolates to children. It was a wonderful sight to watch Santa Claus with children around under the flood lit stadium.
Suvarna, secretary also gave a brief talk on the charity work done in 2009 by Mogaveer UAE’s in India
Lokesh Puthran, president of Mogaveer UAE gave a valedictory speech mentioning the importance of yoga in life and how one can take advantage of free yoga classes every Friday in Burdubai Creek for all community conducted by him. He requested the members to come forward with suggestions to improve and make the Mogaveers UAE a strong association taking the path forward.
Mogaveer Cup 2009
Yadav Kotian informed that Malpe Boys led by Mohit Bangera won the Mogaveer Cricket Cup. Bengre Vidyarthi Sangha led by Yashwind Puthran ended as runner-up.
