Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Jun 3: The excise department has extended the conditional permission it had given for sale of liquor in wine shops till June 30. Moreover, it has extended the time permitted for liquor sale to 9 pm.

After the lockdown conditions were relaxed in phases from May 2 onward, the department had allowed sale of liquor from 9 am to 7 pm. As per the guidelines of lockdown 5.0 which was made effective from June 1, the night curfew period has been limited from 9 pm to 5 am. Therefore, the excise department has extended the liquor sale time from 9 am to 9 pm every day.

Other conditions like only parcels would be allowed to be sold, maintenance of social distance, following rules and regulations relating to regulation of coronavirus infection etc will continue along with other conditions, the department said in a circular.

The excise commissioner also said that te small scale beer manufacturers can henceforth manufacture fresh beer. In the past, the beer manufactured till May 31 by small scale products was allowed to be sold. Now, permission has been given to manufacture beer afresh. The deputy commissioners in the excise department have been asked to permit these manufacturers to sell their product in glasses, containers, and ceramics subject to the condition that the quantity does not exceed two litres.

I was a regular consumer of liquor. With the present price of liquor, it is foolishness to drink and feed excise department. Let them increase price even more and let them keep wine shops open 24 hours 7 days a week. Other day while passing in front of a wine shop I saw ques and all of them poor laborers with tiffin carrier with them, some of them even don't have proper shirt to wear. I felt pity and angry at the same time. How come a country with so poor people minting money by way of excise tax which comes to thousands of crores. Is this the only way to develop our country. Shame on us.

Government can open Liquor shops, schools, malls, cinemas etc.....But not allowing International flights to operate! Very strange!
What about the children stranded in other countries? How will they study if school reopens on 01st July? What is the hurry in opening the schools as corona positive cases are increasing day by day in Karnataka? Can understand corona won't stop and we have to live with it with taking precautions. But will the small children knows and adhere all this? It is very difficult for elders to wear mask whole day, then how these children can cope up this? Most of the schools, liquor shops, malls belongs to politicians. They want to make money. That's their intention, nothing else!

Do you presume it's not available in October 2 or during complete lockdown or when city under curfew. Business in Bangkok completely shattered due to social distancing. Are asking incentives at least for some months...when aviation industry completely restart all together.

Whatever said, the micro brewery outlets are bleeding cash flow and huge losses as the prices quoted for beer is way too high for common man consumption, on top of it, they're charging Rs 100 to Rs 200 only for plastic containers branded by their own brewery.

If they want to survive they have to reduce the price or reduce the price of container or give delivery in the containers brought by customers. It is their responsibility to choose to stay alive or perish
