Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements (ARIIA) is an initiative by the Ministry of Education, Government of India (erstwhile ministry of Human Resource Development MHRD), to systematically rank all major higher educational institutions and universities in India on indicators related to 'Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development' amongst students and faculty members.
The award ceremony of Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements (ARIIA 2020) and Rankings announcement by the vice-president of India, Venkaiah Naidu, was conducted on August 18, at 11.00 am, virtually. NITK Surathkal was ranked in the Band A - rank between 11-25 in the rankings under the category of government-funded institutions. The minister for Education, Dr Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’, and the minister of State for Education, Sanjay Shamrao Dhotre were also present during the virtual announcement.
The institutions were ranked in two broad categories - Publicly Funded and Private or Self-Financed Institutions under which there were five subcategories. A sixth sub-category for higher educational institutions for women has been introduced this year to encourage women and bridge gender disparity in the areas of innovation and entrepreneurship. A total of 674 HEIs under different categories participated in ARIIA 2020.
ARIIA considers all major indicators which are commonly used globally to rank the most innovative education institutions/universities in the world. ARIIA ranking has received wide acceptance among Indian HEIs and has inspired Indian institutions to reorient their mindset and build ecosystems to sustain high-quality research, innovation and entrepreneurship among students and faculty. Moreover, ARIIA aims at setting a direction for institutions for future development in making them globally competitive and at the forefront of innovation.
