Mangaluru, Jun 1: Srinivas University, here, is a private, research and skill-focused university, established by A Shama Rao Foundation in 2013.
Srinivas University (SU) is an extension of the Srinivas Group of Colleges which was started in 1988 under the guidance of a noted industrialist and senior chartered accountant and the current chancellor of SU, Dr A Raghavendra Rao, FCA.
Srinivas Group of Colleges strived incessantly for imparting quality professional education in the fields of Hotel Management, Physiotherapy, Business Management, Computer Science & Applications, Social Work, Education, Nursing Sciences, Pharmacy, Engineering & Technology, Architecture, Medicine, Allied Health Sciences and Dental Sciences through 18 colleges/institutions during the last 33 years with recognition from AICTE, NCTE, NCI, MCI, DCI, PCI, COA as well as NAAC – A Grade.
The infrastructure, faculty and research-oriented teaching-learning processes are synchronized to develop the student’s capability and confidence in the future pursuits of life. The unwavering commitment to quality education in Srinivas Group of Colleges facilitated the easy evolution of Srinivas University in Karnataka state which is the first private university established in coastal Karnataka. The Government of Karnataka published Srinivas University Act-2013 of Karnataka Act 42 of 2013 under clause (3) of Article 348 of the Constitution of India in the Karnataka gazette for general information on Thursday May 15, 2013.
The university operation commenced in 2015 and the university commenced with the new departments namely, College of Management & Commerce, College of Computer & Information Sciences, College of Social Sciences & Humanities, College of Engineering & Technology, College of Hotel Management & Tourism, College of Physiotherapy, College of Allied Health Sciences, College of Nursing Sciences and College of Aviation Studies offering innovative industry-oriented specialized courses at UG, PG, and research levels. The university is also a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), since 2015 so that the degrees offered by the university are accepted for higher education admissions and for earning government, public sector and private sector jobs all over the world. The university is also recognized by Karnataka Higher Education Council (KHEC). Inx2019, Srinivas University was recognised by the department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR) of the department of Science & Technology, Government of India as an institution that encourages industrial research.
Srinivas University presently offers 75 undergraduate programmes leading to BTech, BSc, BHM, BBA, BCom, BCA, BEd, BPT, 50 postgraduate programmes leading to MTech, MBA, MCom, MCA, MSW, MPT, MSc and about 30 research programmes leading to PhD, PDF, DSc and DLitt through its ten academic colleges.
Being research-led and skill-focused, Srinivas University distinguishes itself from other universities by offering research and skill-focused model both in UG and PG programmes. This includes (1) Research-oriented curriculum to UG & PG courses (2) Research projects for the PG students in each semester (3) University peer-reviewed research journals (4) Encouragement and compulsion for UG and PG students for research papers/case studies publication along with faculty members (5) Research centres under each college with a planned target for research and publications (6) Minimum two conferences in every college of university annually and (7) Faculty incentives based on the academic result, attracting project funding, journal paper publications and patents/copyright. The university made innovations in designing and starting new super-speciality programmes both in UG and PG level as per present and future industry relevance, innovations in examination system through a focus on continuous evaluation and to make it student-friendly. The university has established networking with many industries, universities and education service providers to substantially improve the quality and weightage of the courses and degrees respectively.
The ninth year of its existence is being celebrated with a difference due to the continued challenge of COVID-19 by organizing student-centred, faculty-focused activities both in research and skill development areas to empower its students in enhancing employability and entrepreneurship. Accordingly, the university has arranged 30 virtual conferences in different super-speciality areas, 30 national seminars in futuristic subjects to boost the innovative abilities of its students. The university has tied up with various skill-developing agencies including Bosch Ltd, Bengaluru.
The university has adopted a learner-friendly evaluation system with 50% weightage for internal continuous evaluation unlike other surrounding universities and geared up to implement the innovative concepts of the new National Education Policy NEP 2020 by promoting research and skill-based education, competency-based evaluation and Academic Bank of Credits system with a mission of providing Samagra Gnana (comprehensive knowledge) to interested youth of society.
