Mangaluru: Need-based extension of classes advised to achieve better SSLC result

Mangaluru, Jan 20: Dakshina Kannada district department of public instruction has drawn up new guidelines with an eye on getting good results in the SSLC examination.

The schools have been advised to extend the duration of classes by an hour for individual classes based on the need and to draw up new time tables accordingly. This will help in focusing more on learning.

The question bank prepared by experienced teachers from the district has been revised and delivered to all the schools. The department has said that requesting the parents not to watch television or mass media programmes during study hours, supervising the note books of the students and ensuring that they have written down answers to all the questions, are the responsibilities of the teachers and headmasters. To help the teachers, helpline of resource teachers will become functional soon. Programmes through Akashvani will be aired to help the students and parents to make advance preparations for SSLC examination. Help of voluntary organizations and community leaders will be obtained to considerably improve the results of the candidates belonging to scheduled castes and tribes.

Loudspeakers are being used currently to spread the message of cleanliness and sanitation in urban and rural areas. The department plans to use this facility to appeal to the parents and others to give more attention to the SSLC examination, the deputy director of public instruction said.

Weekly open book preparatory examinations will be held on the basis of taluk, district and state level question papers before February end. This will be done to improve the reading and writing skills of the students. Counselling system in all the schools will be activated and steps will be taken to develop positive mindset among the children and teachers with the help of voluntary organizations.

Deputy director of public instruction, Sudhakar K, has instructed the teachers and headmasters of all the schools to initiate plans to improve the SSLC result.
