UAE's Masdar Named City of the Future

Abu Dhabi, Jan 10 (IANS/WAM) Masdar, a planned city currently being built outside Abu Dhabi, has been termed the "city of the future" by one of Germany's largest television news networks.

Designed by British architectural firm Foster+Partners, the city will rely entirely on solar energy and other renewable energy sources, with a sustainable, zero-carbon, zero-waste ecology.

n-tv, which broadcasts news in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, broadcast a special report about the opportunities arising from the development of the world's first project of this kind.

Alan Frost, Masdar City chief executive officer; Fred Moavenzadeh, Masdar Institute president; Frank Wouters, Masdar Power director and Jurgen Haepp, one of the lead architects in charge of the development of Masdar City, heaped praises in the video on the construction of the city.

A number of international firms, including Schlumberger, General Electric, Shell and German technology giant Siemens are also part of the project
