Mangaluru: Carmel School celebrates feast of Nativity of Blessed Virgin Mary, Girl Child Day

Mangaluru, Sep 9: The feast of Nativity of Blessed Virgin Mary and Girl Child Day were celebrated at Carmel School on September 7.

Feast preparations commenced with novena from August 30 to September 7 with novena prayers, thought provoking reflections and finally with strewing of fresh flowers as an index of love for Mother Mary.

 

The Catholic staff and students participated in thanksgiving eucharistic celebration on  September 7 by Fr Rupesh Madtha editor in-charge of 'Raknno' Konkani Weekly. 

The programme by the students of class 7C commenced with meaningful prayer service imploring for divine blessings on all the children especially on the girl child and all the farmers as well.

The gathering was welcomed through a dance performance and the significance of the day was highlighted by Lavish Kumar and Reshon Dsouza. Dance performances accentuated harvest festivals in India and the role of girl child in society.

The students depicted the birth of Mother Mary through a dance drama Sr Preena, vice principal addressed the students and called each one of them to take a pledge to respect every girl as a precious gift in their families and society. They were also reminded of their duty towards the farmers and their families for their untiring work to bring bountiful harvest every year.

The prizes of various competitions and the top scorers of Indian Talent Olympiad 2021-22 were distributed by Sister Preena- the Vice Principal.

Andre Francis Ignatius of class 6B – class topper in Mathematics and won a scholarship of Rs 1000. 

Prishan Dsouza of class 7A - 22nd rank and Excellence Medal Award

Unnathi Mehtha of class 9 – 21 rank and Excellence Medal Award

The students were also awarded the medals and certificates won at various swimming competitions:

Varsha P Shriyan of class 10 – participated in Dakshina Kannada district Inter club Swim Meet 2022 held by Puttur Acquatic Club and won I place in 50m free style and I place in 50m & 100m breast stroke. She also participated in State Level Swimming Competition held at St Aloysius College Swimming Pool and won II place 50 m breast stroke and free style. 

Chaithanya R of class 5A participated in the State Level Non Medalist Swimming Competition held by Department of youth Empowerment and Sports, Hassan and won II place and third place in 50 m butterfly and breast stroke. She also participated in the State Level Swimming Competition at St Aloysius College and won II place in 200m, 50m, and 4x50m in IM, butterfly, freestyle relay and medley relay respectively. She participated in Dakshina Kannada District Inter Club Swim meet 2022 held by Puttur Aquatic club and won I place in 50m backstroke and butterfly and I place in 100m and 50m back stroke and under water with fins.

The programme was compered by Anshika K and Ayesha Rifa and Sarah Noronha proposed the vote of thanks.
