Polish Airspace Safe Despite Iceland Volcano Eruption

Warsaw, May 24 (IANS): The eruption of Iceland's most active volcano has not threatened air traffic safety in the Polish airspace, an official said.

Air traffic over Poland was normal and safe and there were no forecasts speaking about the worsening of the current situation, Grzegorz Hlebowicz, spokesperson of the Polish Air Navigation Services Agency (PAZP) was quoted as saying by Xinhua.

The Grimsvotn volcano in Iceland burst into life Saturday, which put Europe on high alert Monday as a billowing ash cloud drifted towards Scotland and threatened to shut down airports across the northern edge of the continent.

In April 2010, the airspace over Poland and many other European countries was closed for few days due to the dangers posed by clouds of volcanic ash from the Ejafjallajokull volcano in Iceland.
