Mangaluru, Feb 6: “The elections for Ullal Jamat and Ullal Dargha that will be held by Wakf Mandali on February 25 are against Wakf Act and law,” informed Sayyed Madani Seva Samithi.
“The elections will spoil the tradition of Ullal Jamat. Therefore, the Darga Samithi should bring it to the notice of the concerned. It will be necessary to approach the court against the injustice. As per Wakf Act chapter 6, the management committee is empowered to form the Jamat management committee. Wakf Act states that elections can be held only when the selection is not possible on the basis of suggestions and approval,” the Samithi said.
“The election process planned by the Wakf department indicates that it violates the Wakf Act. The current elections are not being held in proportion to the Muslim population at Ullal Jamat. More than 26,000 Muslim men are living in Muslim Jamat at present. The current elections are being held with wrong motive without providing necessary information to the Jamat residents and identifying only 3,000 voters. Ullal Darga management samithi should immediately ban the elections and form a new committee as per the tradition of Ullal darga,” stated Sayyed Madani Seva Samithi president Umar Abdul Khader in a press release.
