Udupi: Suspicious death of wife – Husband arrested, sent to judicial custody

Udupi, Feb 25: Chethan Kumar K (42), accused in the case of suicide of his wife Mamatha, who was allegedly tortured mentally and physically by Chethan, was arrested near Padubidri beach on the night of February 23.

Chethan was produced in Udupi court and was sent to judicial custody for 15 days.

Chethan, resident of Beedu, had married Mamatha in 2011. He was allegedly torturing his wife mentally and physically. Mamatha used to convey her suffering with her mother, elder brother and elder sister.

On Thursday also, Mamatha had called her elder brother on mobile and informed him that she was physically and mentally tortured on Wednesday night by Chethan accusing her of stealing money. In the evening on Thursday, Mamatha hanged herself from the fan of her kitchen.

Padubidri police registered a case of suspicious death based on the complaint filed by elder brother of Mamatha. After preliminary investigation, Padubidri police arrested Chethan.
