Udupi: Adani Foundation distributes scholarship to 755 students worth total Rs 20 lac

Udupi, Mar 11: Adani owned Udupi Power Corporation Limited, today in hands with its CSR wing Adani Foundation, distributed scholarship worth Rs 20 lac to the identified meritorious students residing in 12 gram panchayats around UPCL plant.

As many as 755 students received the scholarship benefits today in the stage programme organized at an open Auditorium of Buntara Bhavan in Padubidri. The programme was kick-started by lighting a lamp by Lalalji R Menon, MLA, Kaup, who had presided the programme, Kishore Alva, president & executive director of Adani, Jayanth Kumar, president of Yellur gram panchayat, Ravi Shetty, president of Padubidri GP, Kasturi Praveen, president of Thenka GP, Jyothi, president of Bada GP, Gayathri Prabhu, president of Palimaru GP, Mamata Divakar Poonja, president of Balakunje GP, Sharmeela, president of Majoor GP, Latha S. Acharya, president of Kuthyaru GP, Shobha Bhat, president of Belapu GP, Yogini Shetty, president of Mudarangadi GP and Saritha Shetty, vice president of Inna GP.

 

Kishore Alva, delivering the foreword, informed that UPCL in association with Adani Foundation is executing CSR works in the field of education, health, rural infrastructure development, sports and cultural activities. Today under educational Initiatives, Adani Foundation is distributing scholarship to 755 meritorious students, identified through respective GPs, residing in and around UPCL plant, worth totally Rs 20 lac. He told that the students who have secured 85% and above in their academics during the academic year 2021-22 in SSLC, ITI, PUC, diploma, graduation, post-graduation, engineering and medical courses were honoured with the scholarships. He informed that honouring the meritorious students with scholarship motivates them to pursue higher studies and will impart thinking of competition among other students. He told that eradication of illiteracy and promoting the education to the rural sections of the society is also one among the prime focus of Adani Foundation in the field of education.

Alva added that recently on 60th birthday, Adani Group’s chairman Gautam Adani has committed Rs 60,000 crore for charitable activities giving importance to education, health and skill development. Adani Foundation, with the motivation and inspiration by founder chairman Gautam Adani, is organizing ‘Udaan’ programme under its focus area of education. Under Udaan, more than 15,000 students have been so far invited to UPCL plant, facilitating them to gain knowledge in their academics and the programme aims at inspiring the students to have a vision in their life.

He also informed that Adani has ventured into International Airport at Mangaluru and City Gas distribution project at Udupi and would facilitate in undertaking more development works under CSR in both Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts. He further told that in near future Adani is aiming to create a green revolution by planting thousands of sapling

Lalalji R Mendon, MLA, Kaup, spoke and told that UPCL, after taking over by Adani, is executing many development works in the district in the field of education, health and rural infrastructure and are commendable. He expressed happiness for the company’s gift to the society in the field of education. He advised students to take the benefit of this scholarship and aim for higher education and work for the development of the society. Adani’s scholarship to the students is a motivational aspect for the students to take-up higher education and this is a students’ friendly activity, he added. He further told that the population from coastal area is supporting Adani’s development works under CSR and Adani companies have won the confidence of local populace.

Yellur gram panchayat president Jayanth Kumar spoke on the occasion and expressed happiness on the development works being undertaken by Adani UPCL in nearby villages. He informed that UPCL, during the regime of earlier administration, had failed to implement village development works under CSR and had lost villagers’ confidence. Now, after Adani took over the UPCL project, it has gained the confidence by way of implementing various development works under its CSR in nearby villages.

Ravi Shetty, president of Padubidri gram panchayat, appreciated that though Padubidri gram panchayat has not given any land for Adani Group’s establishments, Adani is continuing to provide CSR grants to Padubidri gram panchayat every year.

Ravi R Jere, DGM, Adani UPCL welcomed the guests. Deviprasad Bellibettu convened the programme and delivered vote of thanks.

    I am really Very Happy to see that our Ace Philonthropher Adani Foundation has distributed Several Scholarships to deserving Students in Udupi Area ! I am of the opinion, that Adani Foundation is doing a lot of Good Praiseworthy Work all over they decide to do. May the Almighty Bless and Enlighten them always !!!
