Udupi: Excise dept forms special squads to prevent illegal liquor trade during polls

Udupi, Mar 14: The excise department has formed special squads to prevent the sale of fake and inferior quality liquor during the upcoming elections in April and May 2023. The target is such liquor, which is likely to adversely affect health, may be stored, transported, and distributed to attract voters.

In addition, some individuals may buy tax-paid liquor and store it for sale during the dry days of the elections. The excise department has warned that strict action will be taken against such cases.

The department has issued a press release requesting individuals to report any instances of the sale of fake liquor, illegal liquor distilleries, transport, and sales to their toll-free number 18004250732, Udupi number 0820-2532732, Kundapur number: 08254-200902, Karkala: 08258-298865, Taluk control room: 9449597104, Udupi sub-division excise deputy superintendent: 9449597104, Udupi: 9449597113, Kundapur: 9449597777, or other excise department officials.
