Bengaluru, May 5: JD(S) leader and former Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy has demanded that the ruling BJP must reschedule Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s roadshow in the city on Sunday so as not to inconvenience students appearing for the NEET examinations.

Speaking to media persons at his residence on Friday, the JD(S) leader said the timing of the roadshow on Sunday would affect the students appearing for the NEET examinations as they were likely be caught in the traffic snarls on account of restrictions in prominent roads during the Modi roadshow.

The Prime Minister had originally scheduled to have a daylong roadshow in the city on Saturday covering most of the assembly constituencies from morning till evening. However, after realising that the daylong roadshow might cause severe traffic jams all over the city for the whole day, the ruling party had rescheduled the roadshow for two days on Saturday and Sunday with restricted timings.

Kumaraswamy said several parents and students have approached me and have expressed their concerns. “I am sure the parents and students have also taken up the matter with the BJP leaders. The Prime Minister should not come in the way of students appearing for the examinations and the roadshow with consequent traffic restrictions will definitely affect their movement. It will also inconvenience the public,’’ he warned.

“The future of students must be considered and not the assumed political benefits by the Prime Minister’s roadshow to the BJP,’’ he said.

The JD(S) leader said the ruling BJP is more interested in grabbing power by any moves and is least concerned about the students or the public.

“The BJP agenda is grab power by any moves,’’ he said pointing out that there has been widespread criticism about the political roadshows by Modi as it will definitely cause undue hardships.

“If Modi and BJP is really concerned about the students and youth, they must take immediate steps to reschedule the roadshows,’’ he said warning that “it will definitely be counterproductive and people will curse BJP.’’
