Udupi: Rowdy Assaults Mentally Ill Patient

Udupi, Jul 13: A mentally ill person was assaulted with a sickle by a rowdy at Indira Nagar near Manipal-Alevoor road here on Tuesday July 12. The victim has been admitted to Ajjarakad government hospital.
Samruddha (24), a resident of Manipal (near TAPMI campus) and son of Sadhana Kini is the injured. Local rowdy Golden Suresh alias Suresh Poojary is the accused. He came in a while Santro car (KA 19- MD 353) and assaulted Samruddha, it is learnt.
After the incident, Golden Suresh fled away. As per the statement given by Samruddha's caretaker Kumari Bheema, a complaint has been registered in Manipal police station.
His mother Sadhana Kini complained that Golden Suresh has been continuously torturing her son since four months. She added that Golden Suresh assaulted her son as he was not on good terms with her.
It is also stated in the complaint that DYSP Jayanth Shetty is safeguarding Suresh in return for some favours from him. She said Manipal police has been lax in conducting investigations as the DYSP himself is supporting the accused.
