Bengaluru, Jun 18: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Sunday underscored the need for accountability among people’s representatives and government officials and mentioned that those without accountability are unfit to be in public life.

Participating in the programme organised by the Insight IAS Academy for felicitating those who passed in UPSC Examinations, he said the IAS and KAS officers are working as the link and bridge between the government and the people and they must diligently discharge their duties.

Siddaramaiah regretted that a large section of people were still deprived of education, which was mainly on account of the social inequalities and lack of opportunities.

"It is the duty and obligation of all elected representatives, officials and those in public life to strive for eradicating the inequalities. If we fail in our duties, we are unfit to be in public life because government service and public life are a trust between the people and government,’’ he said.

The Chief Minister said the people, who have experienced the pangs of hunger, are able to understand the plight of the people and similarly the poor and illiterate people realise that they lack the wherewithal to come up in life. Everybody in public life must work honestly with commitment and dedication to end the disparity and inequalities, he said.

Taralabalu Mutt Seer Sri Shivamurthy Shiavacharya, Justice Nagamohan Das, Insight Directors Vinay Kumar and Madhukar Naganna were present.
