Mangaluru, Jul 8: As rainwater is not flowing freely into the storm drains and waterlogging is reported in sewage drains, animals and the normal life of people working in Animal Care Trust (ACT) in Shaktinagar has been disrupted.
As many as 240 animals are having a tough time due to waterlogging.
Seven sewage drainage manholes are blocked without proper flow. When water entered into the trust building, the management of the trust had to shift the little puppies to a safer zone to save their life.
Including a cow, 170 dogs, 40 cats, and 30 other animal and bird species, there are over 240 animals in the trust. Moreover, there are animals suffering from health issues. As sewage water flooded into the building, the animals are facing issues more than ever.
Under normal circumstances, ACT handles a significant number of rescue cases daily, but the continuous rainfall has hit the same.
It is said that though the issue has been brought to the notice of Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) officials, they are not doing the needful.
Speaking to daijiworld.com, ACT trustee Suma R Nayak said, "We are requesting the MCC to resolve the issue. We have brought this issue to the notice of the concerned authorities several times, but nothing is being done.”
"When the complaint filed with the officials of the MCC, their staff visited the spot. But the problem is not yet resolved. Even before the rainy season, the sewage drainage problem was persisting. We want a permanent solution and proper repair of the UGD. After reports have come in the media, the MCC staff are cleaning the drainage now," she said.
