Beltangady: ICYM Varado Unit Conducts Legal Awareness Training Programme

Beltangady, Jul 27: The Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) unit of Beltangady Varado held a Legal awareness training programme at Varado level on Sunday July 24 at the Church Hall, here.

Deanery Vicar of the Beltangady Fr James D’ Souza who presided over the programme addressed the gathering and expressed the need of the hour to know our basic rights and to know the procedure to get ourselves protected from unnecessary problems through legal complications.


Former President of ICYM Vincent D’ Souza addressed the youngsters and gave a call to unite among themselves to protect our interests and to work for the betterment of the society.

During the training director of the Diocesan legal cell Fr Francis Assisi D’ Almeida spoke about rights of a person while one is arrested and the duties of the police towards the arrested person. He also spoke about the rights of a complainant and procedure and advantages of a private complaint before the Judicial Magistrate. The methodology of writing an FIR (FirstInformation Report) was also explained during the session.

Mr. Praveen Pinto an advocate from Mangalore spoke on consumer rights and procedures to file a complaint before the consumer redressel forum along with certain practical examples.

Varado director of Beltangady ICYM unit Fr Simon D’Souza, the president of Belthangady Varado Unit Derrel Kiran Pereira, Varado Treasurer Benedict Pinto among others were present.
