Mangaluru: Shortage of engineers in MCC, one shoulders workload of five

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Jul 10: Monsoon has begun with a bang in the city. Many areas are logged with water. Traffic is also affected for the same reason. To manage this adverse situation, there is only one engineer in Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC). Hard to believe, but a true fact.

One more surprising fact is that he has to do the work of four other engineers, whose posts are vacant.

The MCC authorities said in the month of May itself that gangmen were made ready and silt and waste was removed from storm water drains.

The officials and administration of the MCC were confident that this is enough to handle the heavy rains of monsoon. However, incessant rains in the past few days created huge artificial floods in many areas.

The MCC which boasts of all preparations done to face the monsoon has only one executive engineer. There is no superintendent engineer, no engineer for Jalasiri project and no engineers for Kadri and Surathkal areas.

There are 60 wards in the MCC. As many as 16 assistant engineer posts are allotted. However, only three are working at present. So the only executive engineer in the MCC is looking after all the works of four other engineers also.

Mangaluru, which is called as Smart City, falls into total chaos with just an hour of incessant rains due to lack of storm water drains for the rain water to flow. It seems that the MCC and officials are not bothered to find a permanent solution for the issue.

Citizens of Mangaluru are asking, why the team of gangmen that were prepared to face monsoon, do not do rescue work during natural calamities.

I think Present Government of Karnataka has to investigate this further. The present MCC which is pull of BJP may be trying their best to pull down Congress Government without their own fault.
