Bantwal, Aug 18: Sangeeta Vidushi, P I Parvati Amma (87), wife of the late Ayurveda practitioner, Dr P S Eshwar Bhat, breathed her last at her residence in Badanaje near Vittal on Tuesday August 16. She is survived by sons, Vittal Badanaje Shankar Bhat, an agricultural researcher, well-known ophthalmologist from Mangalore, Dr P Govind Raj, Dr P Ganapati of Mangala Hospital Mangalore, apart from seven daughters.

Parvati Amma was the daughter of Sangeeta Vidwan Govind Bhat and Devaki from Ukkinadka Nellikunjeguttu. She had mastered the art of preparing Ayurveda and native medicines, having been trained under her father-in-law and husband. She was especially known for her prowess in treating gynaecological and paediatric ailments.  The couple was known for successfully treating couple who failed to conceive children for a prolonged period. She had also held a number of musical concerts. She treated everyone free of cost.

Parvati Amma was honoured with the title, ‘Nati Vaidya Ratna’, at the state level conference of practitioners of native medicines held at Adichunchanagiri in 1996. She was also felicitated by various organizations. A book titled ‘Ajjimane Maddu’, written by her for helping households to treat minor health problems out of the things available around them, had become extremely popular.
