Udupi: Hebbar Gallery and Art Centre Presents "Maas" - A Play by Jyoti Dogra

Media Release

Manipal, Sept 28: The Hebbar Gallery and Art Centre (HGAC) is thrilled to announce a captivating theatrical experience that promises to engage, enlighten, and entertain audiences. Renowned actor Jyoti Dogra will perform her one-woman play, "Maas," on Friday, September 29th at 6:00 p.m. The performance will take place at the GangubaiHanagal Auditorium, situated within the picturesque confines of the Manipal Centre for Humanities.

"Maas" is a unique theatrical creation that seamlessly blends English and Hindi to explore contemporary societal themes. Through humor and incisive critique, the play delves into topics such as diet culture, the influence of social media personalities, internalized patriarchy, body shaming, and the complex interplay between the fashion and health industries.

Jyoti Dogra, the talented actor behind this thought-provoking piece, provides insight into the motivation behind "Maas": "We find ourselves at the deep end of the shallow business of beauty. And we drown in the not so shallow waters of shame, self-loathing, inadequacy, and anger towards our own bodies, subjecting it to all kinds of violence. This violence is subtle, layered, and surprisingly funny! It’s funny, until it’s not." This compelling performance is open to the public and completely free of charge. Please note that seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis, and doors will close promptly at 6:15 pm. Make sure to arrive early to secure your seat for an evening of thought-provoking entertainment.

Don't miss this opportunity to witness "Maas" by Jyoti Dogra, a theatrical production that challenges norms, sparks conversations, and invites introspection.
