Udupi: 14th annual conference of Indian Association of Dermatologists to be held from Oct 27-29

Udupi, Oct 25: Dr Sathish Pai, professor of dermatology, Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, and organizing chairman CUTICON KN 2023, said in the press meet on Wednesday, October 25 organized at Udupi Press Club, "Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), Manipal, along with Karavali Dermatology Society (KDS) are hosting 14th annual state conference of IADVL, Karnataka branch from October 27 to 29 at Dr TMA Pai Hall, KMC, Manipal. This conference is very special to us as we are hosting it after a gap of 23 years. Dermatology is one of the fastest-growing sub-specialties and is the most sought-after branch during postgraduate courses. It is very important to keep updated in the chosen specialty; one such avenue where one can refresh one's knowledge is state conference by listening and discussing with experts.

"We are fortunate to have four distinguished international experts who are coming from places such as the USA and UK to deliver talks. Dr Razaque Ahmed from Boston University is a world expert in the management of autoimmune bullous diseases with a lot of publications in reputed journals such as the New England Journal of Medicine. His treatment protocol in pemphigus is widely accepted by the scientific fraternity. He will be delivering two talks and he will be conferred the 'Charaka Award’ by the IADVL Karnataka branch for his contribution to the subspecialty of dermatology. Another distinguished faculty is Prof Jemima Mellierio from St John’s Institute of Dermatology, UK. She is a world expert in a genetic skin disease called 'Epidermolysis Bullosa'. She has many publications in her name and is involved in the revised classification of this disease. Besides this Dr Manjunathan expert, from the University of Wales going to deliver talks on Psoriasis and Eczema. Dr Srikumar from Dubai is going to share his experience on a new drug in the management of Psoriasis. Besides this, experts from different parts of the country such as Chandigarh, Pondicherry, Kolkata, Vellore, Chennai and Ahmedabad are going to share their experience," he added.

On this occasion, Dr Raghavendra Rao, professor and head of dermatology, Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, and organizing secretary CUTICON KN 2023 said, "Around 600 delegates have registered for the conference. Doctors who are pursuing post-graduation are presenting papers (around 500 papers will be read). The conference will be held in 5 halls. Karnataka Medical Council has recognized this meeting and has given 5 credit hours to doctors who are attending the conference. A quiz competition will be held for postgraduate and undergraduate students. Many awards will be distributed such as lifetime achievement award, best community service, young dermatologist award, etc will be held. As part of world psoriasis day which will be celebrated on October 29, an awareness march will also be held in Manipal. The inauguration of the conference will be held on October 28 at 12 pm."

Dr Lokesh Rao and Dr Sripathi H, organizing co-chairman, and Dr Sanath, joint organizing secretary Mohan Shetty, deputy manager marketing were present.
